Prescription Help

As your loved one's caregiver, you are probably the person updating and printing his or her medication list, then folding it neatly to fit in purse or wallet. The paper ends up folded to about the size of four little Hershey's chocolate bar squares, so it's small. I find it helps if I can squeeze the dosage onto the list and even the purpose. This helped me and my mother remember which of all those fun, long drug names are for what. I used to include the name of each prescribing doctor but abandoned that due to space limits. Now that Mom is in a nursing facility, all her meds come from one source, and she has only one doctor. If a specialist is called, s/he works with the home's main doctor. They can easily manage all the -stors, -amines, -oxines, and -irols.

Here are some helps with prescription drug costs:

Try goodrx.com for coupons. I recently refilled a prescription for less than my insurance company's copay with a goodrx coupon.

Cou-co.com is another source for possible coupons.

Walgreens has a savings club that is worth looking into.

CVS can also help you find discounts and coupons for your medications.

Walmart has a $4 prescription plan.

Your pharmacist can help you find the best price. If you're on Medicare, discounts may not apply. Periodically asking your loved one's primary care physician to review the need for everything on the medication list might reduce costs as well.
